Actor estadounidense



Nació el 28 de abril de 1878 en Filadelfia. El mayor de los tres Barrymore.

Hizo su debut en el teatro, donde llegó a convertirse en una estrella.

En sus inicios en la gran pantalla, participó en las películas de D. W. Griffith. Tuvo como compañeras de reparto a Pearl White y después a Greta Garbo.

Encarnó a la vieja Mrs. Mandelip en Muñecos infernales (T Browning, 1936). Su apariencia robusta le ayudó a interpretar papeles de composición. También trabajó en la radio, fue compositor de música y escritor.

Director de algunas películas mudas, entre las que destaca Senderos de abnegación (Life's Whiripool, 1917) con su hermana Ethel de protagonista.

En el año 1931 recibió un Oscar por Alma libre (A Free Soul), de Clarence Brown.

Lionel Barrymore falleció en Beverly Hills, California, el 16 de noviembre de 1954 de un ataque al corazón.
